Learning Reflections 

Seminar in English Language Teaching

       Today, teacher assigned us to discuss about different teaching and learning in EFL and ESL. I disscuss with my friends in group to present our disscussion in front of class. For today, teacher allowed us to make group by ourself and disscussion about 30 minutes. The things that I got in class are about teaching and learning in EFL and EFL. For ESL is students are immigrants or visitors. The class mixed nationalities, so students don’t share a native language or a common culture. For EFL is students share the same language and culture. The teacher may be the only native English speaker they have exposure to. Outside of the classroom students have very few opportunities to use English.

       After we finished our discussion, teacher teached us about 21st century Learning Pedagogical Perspectives by using Powerpoint. Before we finished class, teacher assigned us to choose the topics to do report and for my group we got the topic about "Factors Affecting English Language Teaching and Learning"

       For today, I don't have any problem with learning in class because I discuss with friends about the things that I don't understand or I don't know. I think the discussion with friends in class help me in learning better than study by oneself.

 World Englishes



       Today, We preseted our discussion of last week about Global English, ESL, EFL and EIL. After that, teacher asked us to watch the video of David crystal for learning "World Englishes". He is one of my favorite speaker because he pronounce the words perfectly and his accent and fluency are wonderful. He talked about English in each country that is different in some aspect and some meaning. He said that every countries use a variety of English and this is because culture, myth, legends, the food that people eat, the folklore that people have, the songs, the dance is the institutions which talk about in English. English is used in worldwide, so it is used in various style to communicate. After we watched the video, teacher asked us to discuss about the video and presented the discussion in front of the class. And finally, teacher summarized the concept of World English that we have presented.

       For my problem in learning today, I think I have a problem with listening because I cannot listen in some words that him said although he spoke cleary. So, I tried to improve my listening skill with the videos on youtube and I also practiced to listen native speaker accent. 

       I like learning style for today because I like watching something that I can practice my English skill and I think English is necessary for students, so this style is suitable with learning in current.
